Our Story

We started a new chapter at MT Book Co. (MTBC) in the summer of 2018. Judy Flanders, the original owner, established the bookstore as Little Professor in 1978. Twenty years later Didi and Jan Peccia purchased the store and grew it with a stronger focus on children’s books and toys. Originally they named the store Montana Book Company and later revised their business name to Montana Book & Toy Co. We brought our own unique indie bookstore style in 2018, adapted the name, and rearranged a few shelves, but we still proudly carry on the traditions of the great women who preceded us by providing quality books, gifts, and events for the Helena community.

We are silly, and sometimes serious. Above is Charlie Crawford and Chelsia Rice, Co-Owners of MTBC.
Stop in, connect with us, and support your local, independent bookstore! We can’t wait to hear about what you’re reading and find out what’s next on your list.
“The re-birth of this bookstore under new ownership is the best thing to happen to Helena in ages, giving us a great progressive bookstore in downtown. Friendly, knowledgable staff, great local events and gathering space, book clubs, and more. Get in there. “
